The Lu raise is an effective exercise for strengthening and building the medial deltoids, the trapezius and supraspinatus of the rotator cuff.
Considered a variant of lateral raises, Lu raises share a common initial movement path and primarily target the same muscle groups.
However, It involves a full range of motion at the shoulder joint allowing your hands to go overhead instead of stopping parallel to the floor as seen in traditional lateral raises.
While the exercise draws its name from and was popularized by possibly the greatest Olympic weightlifting champion to have lived, Lu Xiaojun, its roots can be traced back to over a century ago.
